What to know
A transaction statement and a bank-issued balance confirmation answer different questions. Check the exact request before translating months of account activity.
Identify all pages, currency, account-holder section, and bank legend.
Transaction codes, debit and credit columns, and balances should remain aligned.
Ask whether the recipient needs full statements or a bank-issued balance letter.
Document guide
These notes help you describe your request. The receiving organization’s current instructions should guide the final requirements.
A bank statement shows transactions over a period, often with opening and closing balances. A balance confirmation is a separate bank-issued record about an amount at a date. The Slovak Foreign Ministry’s temporary-residence-for-business instructions specifically list a confirmation of an account balance for certain financial-means requirements. Do not assume a stack of statements can replace that confirmation or that the same rule applies to a visa, loan, private transaction, or another residence category. Ask the receiving office for its exact document wording.
In its August 2026 business temporary-residence checklist, the Slovak Foreign Ministry separately lists a balance confirmation for the applicant’s means of residence and a balance confirmation for the business activity from an account established for business purposes. It gives different amounts for different business roles and says the confirmations must be no older than 90 days. Identify which requirement your receiving office is checking, the account holder and purpose, the letter’s issue date, and the office’s current amount rule before requesting a translation. A transaction statement or a balance letter for the wrong account should not be assumed to satisfy the other requirement.
For a Slovak residence application, the Foreign Ministry says required foreign-language documents must be accompanied by an official Slovak translation, submitted as an original or officially certified copy. It also describes a separate diplomatic-mission confirmation when a translation was prepared abroad, with a warning that the mission may refuse confirmation if it cannot verify the translator’s authorisation. Ask the receiving mission or Foreign Police office which route it accepts before ordering; an ordinary English-to-Slovak rendering should not be represented as an official residence submission. These rules should not be assumed for a lender, private contract, or unrelated procedure.
If the recipient does request statements, note the bank, account holder, currency, statement dates, page numbering, continuation pages, transaction legends, and any bank stamp or digital verification. A cropped balance row may omit context or fail the recipient’s completeness rule. Ask whether it accepts a defined excerpt or requires every page in the stated period before paying to translate repetitive transactions.
A useful Slovak rendering should retain debit and credit direction, dates, amounts, running balances, and the bank’s own abbreviations. It should not recalculate balances, infer the purpose of an unexplained payment, or change the account holder’s name to match another record. If the bank’s legend defines a code, include that page. Financial interpretation and sufficiency decisions belong to the receiving institution.
State whether the source is a statement or balance letter, number of months and pages, file type, recipient, required translation form, and deadline. Do not enter account numbers, balances, transaction details, or full names in the initial public form. Discuss a protected file-review method after the scope is clear.

The Foreign Ministry calls for an official Slovak translation of required foreign-language documents and describes additional confirmation for translations prepared abroad. Check the receiving office’s accepted translator and submission format before ordering.
