What to check before ordering

These notes help you describe your request. The receiving organization’s current instructions should guide the final requirements.

Name the use before translating the letter

A letter allowing a minor to travel with one parent is not automatically consent to issue a passport or change residence. Identify the child’s travel-document nationality, departure, transit, and destination countries, accompanying adult, travel dates, and the office or airline that requested the letter. If it is for a consular application instead, state that exact procedure.

Check the requested signer and format

Your Europe says there is no single EU rule for minors’ travel authorizations: countries set their own requirements, transit countries may differ, and airlines can ask for their own forms. The Slovak Embassy separately lists written legal-guardian consent with a certified signature for certain passport applicants aged fifteen to seventeen. Obtain the current instruction for your route or application before deciding whether a personal letter, prescribed form, certified signature, or translation is needed.

Separate citizenship-by-descent consent from travel permission

For a child included in a Slovak citizenship-by-descent application, the Slovak Embassy in Washington lists a specific second-parent consent form and says the signature must be certified by a Slovak honorary consul or the Embassy. It distinguishes the form for a child under fourteen from the form for a child aged fourteen or older and states that second-parent consent is required for children under eighteen. A translated travel letter should not be assumed to replace that process. Check the current consular form and whether any separate English-language document actually needs translation.

Keep identity and permission boundaries clear

A letter may name a parent, guardian, other adult, child, travel period, destinations, and contact information. Translate the permission and any limits exactly. If the child’s surname differs from the accompanying adult’s, ask the relevant authority what relationship evidence it expects. A translation of a consent letter does not itself change a custody order or prove that the signer has legal authority.

Scope the actual document without public identifiers

Tell us the issuing country or U.S. state, letter or form type, pages, source format, recipient, requested translation form, and travel or filing deadline. Mention a related birth record, custody order, or guardianship order if the recipient asks for it. Do not post a child’s name, passport number, itinerary, or contact details in the public quote form.

Common questions

Answers to common questions before you request a quote.

Is one consent letter valid for every EU trip?

No common EU rule guarantees that. Check the countries on the route and the airline for the specific journey.

Can a translated travel letter replace the Embassy’s child-consent form?

Do not assume so. The citizenship-by-descent checklist identifies age-specific forms and a certified second-parent signature; confirm the exact procedure with the consular office.

Does a translated letter replace a custody order?

No. If the authority needs proof of who may consent, ask which legal record it requires.
