Give each string the context it needs

Buttons, alerts, settings, and help text often need different Slovak wording even when the English source repeats one short word.

01

Source record

Export strings with keys, screenshots, placeholders, and length limits.

02

Reader and purpose

A single English word can have several meanings; provide context and approved terminology.

03

Quote details

Ask whether the Slovak release includes date, number, and pluralization handling.

What to check before ordering

These notes help you describe your request. The receiving organization’s current instructions should guide the final requirements.

Export strings with their use

Give resource keys, source strings, screenshots or mockups, screen names, user action, platform, release version, and whether the text appears in a button, notification, error, menu, or help panel. Mark placeholders, markup, character limits, and strings that should stay as product names. A plain spreadsheet of isolated words can hide whether “Save” means storing a file or reducing a setting.

Protect meaning and runtime structure

W3C internationalization guidance explains that reusing one English string in different contexts can prevent an appropriate translation. Keep distinct keys where the action or grammatical context differs, and preserve variables and formatting tokens exactly as the software expects. Ask the product team how plural forms, date and number formats, input validation, and accessibility labels will be handled in the Slovak release.

Include the Slovak plural variants in the scope

Unicode CLDR lists four Slovak cardinal categories: one, few, many, and other. In its rules, integers 1 and 2–4 use different categories from 0 and integers 5 upward, while numbers with visible fractional digits use many. A category name is a technical label, not a ready-made sentence. Supply each counted message with its variable, context, and the plural forms supported by the application. A single English plural string may need several Slovak variants. Have the developer and Slovak reviewer test 0, 1, 2, 4, 5, 21, and a decimal in the actual product; do not build the Slovak wording by appending an English-style ending.

Test the rendered product

Review the localized screens at common viewport sizes and within actual workflows. Check truncation, line wrapping, dialog order, mixed-language states, error recovery, links, and screen-reader labels. An exported text file cannot show all layout or behavior defects. Translating the strings is one part of localization; a developer and product reviewer must approve the running release.

Request a scope that includes review

Provide string count, format such as JSON or XLIFF, screenshots, product terminology, platform, release date, and the person who can answer context questions. Separate new strings from changed strings in later builds so the Slovak text can be updated accurately. Do not place credentials, private user messages, or unreleased code in the public quote form.

How to request a quote

01

Describe the document

Choose the type and tell us where the translation will be used.

02

Add your requirements

Include the approximate length, deadline, and any instructions from the recipient.

03

Review and next steps

We review the request and may contact you by email if more detail is needed.

Common questions

Answers to common questions before you request a quote.

Can a string list be translated without screenshots?

It can be scoped, but screenshots and action context help resolve short or ambiguous labels.

Is translated text enough to launch the Slovak interface?

Plan an in-product review for layout, variables, accessibility text, and workflow behavior.

Are English singular and plural strings enough for Slovak counters?

Do not assume so. CLDR specifies four Slovak cardinal categories. Include the application’s supported variants and counting context in the translation brief, then test the rendered messages with the developer.
