Check the qualification record and the recognition route

A diploma supplement explains a course of study and its education system. The need for a paid translation depends on the receiving procedure.

01

Source record

Check every section, grading table, explanatory note, and issuing signature.

02

Reader and purpose

Qualification levels and credit terminology should be translated without asserting automatic equivalence.

03

Quote details

Ask whether the recipient needs the supplement, diploma, transcript, or all three.

What to check before ordering

These notes help you describe your request. The receiving organization’s current instructions should guide the final requirements.

Keep the full supplement with its diploma

Europass describes the diploma supplement as a document that helps explain the type and level of qualification, study content, results, and education system. It is not the diploma itself. Include the section headings, course or module lists, grades, credit information, institutional details, signatures, and explanatory system notes in the source set. A back page or annex can explain how a table should be read.

Check the specific Slovak recognition procedure first

The Slovak Ministry of Education separates academic recognition from recognition for a regulated profession. Its higher-education-level procedure lists a certified copy of a diploma supplement or full transcript as part of the application. That procedure’s published instructions say an applicant’s own translation is accepted for documents issued in English, among several named languages. This does not mean every university, employer, regulated-profession authority, or other procedure will accept the same format. Check the exact recipient before purchasing an official translation.

Keep authentication separate from the translation choice

In the Ministry’s higher-education level recognition procedure without study-field comparison, its current checklist also calls for an apostille or superlegalization of a document issued outside the European Higher Education Area from 1 September 2026. Acceptance of an applicant’s own English-to-Slovak translation does not itself waive that distinct authentication step. Ask the recognition centre which diploma and supplement or transcript records it applies to, and do not extend this rule to every education or employment use.

Preserve educational terminology rather than assign equivalence

Qualification level, credits, grades, course titles, and award language should reflect what the issuing institution actually states. A translation should not convert a grade to a Slovak scale, rename the qualification, or announce that it is equivalent to a Slovak award. The relevant recognition body or receiving institution makes those decisions. Provide any institution-issued legend that defines abbreviations and credit values.

Describe the document set for a quote

Tell us whether you need the supplement, diploma, transcript, or all three; the issuing country; total pages; tables or annexes; recipient; required output; and deadline. Do not enter student numbers or grades in the initial public form. An editable original or a clear scan helps us assess formatting effort after the scope is agreed.

How to request a quote

Tell us what the document is, who needs the Slovak translation, and when you need it. The first form does not require a file.

01

Describe the document

Choose the type and tell us where the translation will be used.

02

Add your requirements

Include the approximate length, deadline, and any instructions from the recipient.

03

Review and next steps

We review the request and may contact you by email if more detail is needed.

Common questions

Answers to common questions before you request a quote.

Must an English diploma supplement always be officially translated?

No universal rule applies. The Ministry’s higher-education-level procedure accepts an applicant’s own translation for English documents, but other procedures and recipients can differ. Read the current instructions for yours.

Is a diploma supplement the same as a transcript?

They can overlap, but a supplement usually explains the qualification and education system while a transcript records course and grade history. Ask the recipient which it accepts.

Can translation establish degree equivalence?

No. The relevant recognition authority or institution decides what a foreign qualification means for its purpose.

If my own translation is accepted, can I skip document authentication?

Do not assume so. The Ministry’s higher-education level recognition checklist has a separate September 2026 apostille or superlegalization rule for documents issued outside the European Higher Education Area. Confirm how it applies to your exact diploma and supplement with the recognition centre.
