Identify the request before translating

A school, recognition authority, professional regulator, and employer may ask for different evidence from the same applicant.

01

Education records

Name the diploma, transcript, supplement, school report, or training certificate. Note the institution, level, dates, grading key, and any reverse-side text.

02

Professional status

Separate a license or registration from the diploma, experience evidence, continuing education, and good-standing letter. Ask the competent Slovak body which records it wants.

03

Work records

Distinguish an offer, employment verification, reference, contract, and job description. State whether the Slovak reader is an employer, authority, or private party.

Check for an existing recognition statement

For a completed higher or qualifying upper-secondary credential, the Ministry’s recognition-statement database may already contain a downloadable statement for the exact qualification. It can replace a separate level-recognition decision for further study or other nonregulated uses when used with that credential; it does not establish admission or permission to practise a regulated profession. Ask the recipient whether it accepts the statement and what form of the accompanying foreign credential or translation it requires.

For higher-education level recognition, check the exact Ministry route

The Slovak Ministry of Education’s procedure for recognition of the level of higher education without comparing a field of study accepts an applicant’s own translation for documents issued in English. Its authentication and electronic attachment rules are separate. If this is your procedure, check whether a paid translation is needed before ordering one. An admission office, employer, or another recognition route may set different conditions.

For secondary education, ask the regional office

The Ministry’s general secondary-education recognition instructions direct applicants to a regional school administration office and state a certified-translation requirement for education documents. Identify that office, the school record it asks for, and its current submission format. Do not assume the higher-education own-translation exception applies to this process.

For a regulated profession, identify the competent authority

The Ministry says recognition of professional qualifications is an official decision process for access to a regulated profession. Its database names the authority and requirements for each profession. For the Ministry’s named formal/professional-qualification application, its checklist accepts an applicant’s own translation from English for the qualification evidence it lists, including third-country records; an official translation may be requested later if verification fails. A separate profession-specific body or license-status record can have different rules. A translation does not itself authorize practice.

For an employer or residence file, separate the reader from the filing

An employer may want a readable Slovak reference or contract for its own review. A separate residence application has purpose-specific document lists: the Slovak Foreign Ministry says required foreign-language documents in those proceedings need an official Slovak translation, with stated Czech alternatives, and addresses confirmation for translations prepared abroad. Identify whether the work record is actually required for your residence purpose; do not apply a public-filing rule to every employer request.

Make a quote brief from the exact records

List the title and issuer of each English record, pages or words, grading legends, stamps, annexes, source format, recipient, written translation requirement, and deadline. Mention whether the source is a scan or an editable file. Do not paste grades, license numbers, employment disputes, or other personal details into the public form. A translation cannot change a credential’s level or decide the outcome of an application.

These examples are not a combined application checklist. The receiving body’s current procedure controls the documents and translation form.

Higher-education level recognition

For the named Ministry route without field-of-study comparison, an applicant’s own translation of English documents is accepted. Authentication and electronic conversion may still be required.

Before orderingConfirm the route and source document before paying for an official translation.

Read official instructions

Secondary-education recognition

The Ministry’s general route goes through a regional school administration office and calls for certified translation of education documents.

Before orderingAsk the regional office for its record and format checklist.

Read official instructions

Regulated professional practice

Recognition is separate from translation. The Ministry’s named application accepts an applicant’s own English-to-Slovak translation for listed qualification evidence, with later verification possible; other professional routes may differ.

Residence for work or study

The Foreign Ministry publishes purpose-specific record lists and a general official-translation rule for required foreign-language documents in residence proceedings.

Common questions

Answers to common questions before you request a quote.

Could a recognition statement replace a separate level-recognition application?

For a qualification listed in the Ministry database, its statement can replace the level decision for further study or other nonregulated uses when presented with the credential. Check the exact qualification and recipient; the statement does not decide admission or remove any separate translation requirement for the credential.

Does an English university diploma always need an official Slovak translation?

No. The Ministry accepts an applicant’s own translation of English documents in its specific higher-education level recognition route. Check your actual recipient and procedure; another route can differ.

Is a translated professional license permission to practise?

No. The competent Slovak authority decides recognition and other conditions for a regulated profession. Translation presents the foreign record.

Can one translation be used for both an employer and an authority?

Ask both recipients which source record, translator status, and output they accept. A version prepared for private reading may not meet an official filing rule.

What should I put in the quote form?

Name each document, issuing body, number of pages, Slovak recipient, written requirement, and target date. Leave personal identifiers and document text out of the first message.
